Ultrasonic LeakDetect™

Problem Area:

Our client experienced a spike in their water bills and suspected a potential water supply pipe leak concealed underground. They engaged our Ultrasonic LeakDetectTM technology to identify the potential leakage points.

Methodology and findings:

Based on the client’s understanding of the concealed pipe layout, we conducted detection at intervals of 1m from the start to the end of the pipeline. We used the leak detector with the amplifier probe rod attached to the sensor, inserted about 100-150mm into the subsoil. We identified several areas of anomalies in sound frequencies. Coupled with visual inspection, we observed signs of water ponding near the hydrants which further supported the potential leak points. The suspected areas of water leakage were then highlighted in the report for the client’s reference.

Recommended next-steps:

We recommend excavating the suspected areas highlighted to expose the water supply pipe and repair the leaking sections where necessary. At the same time, all valves should be checked and ensured to be in good condition. Further monitor after repair works to ensure no more seepages before backfilling the excavated areas.
